Light Bulb Moments

What is a “Light Bulb Moment”?

Throughout the process of therapy, one of the major roles of your therapist is to challenge your thought process on certain issues. Whether it’s a repetitive behavior, an irrational thought, or a lack of empathy. A good therapist will try to help you see a situation from a different angle. This process creates these light bulb moments.

When a client is able to make that mental and/or emotional shift, allowing a new part of their brain to light up over a specific situation, there is a moment that happens. Almost like a cartoon character getting an idea, a light bulb appears to turn on. Those are light bulb moments, and they are necessary steps for growth.

These moments can happen in many parts of your life!

With Family

Because we have typically known our family for our entire lives, it can be hard to imagine thinking about them any differently than we do now. However, when we understand ourselves better, we are able to better understand moments from our past and allow a light bulb to come on that helps us looks at things in a brand new way.

With Career

Careers can be a major source of stress. It is so easy to point the finger at others, that we often overlook the baggage we bring to our jobs. While we all show different versions of ourselves to different people in our life, some core issues will end up surfacing in ALL of those interactions. Having a light bulb moment here can improve our interactions at work, as well as give us the confidence to grow in our careers!

With Romantic Relationships

Empathy goes a long way in any romantic relationship. Having a light bulb moment in a relationship can allow you to see things from an entirely new perspective and ask yourself questions you have never thought to ask before. Sometimes they help develop deeper connections with your partner, and other times they can help you better define what you are looking for in a relationship.
